The Zambia Green Jobs Programme (ZGJP), the Government of Zambia and the Government of Finland, in collaboration with the International Training Centre of the ILO and the ILO’s Green Centenary Initiative held the Africa Forum on Private Sector Inclusive Green Growth and Job Creation that took place on 6 – 8 September 2017 in Livingstone, Zambia.

Objective

The overall aim of this event was to share and consolidate good practices and sustainable approaches in the promotion of private sector inclusive green growth strategies that result  in more and better jobs, especially for the youth. Building on the existing body of work brought in by both national and international stakeholders, the Forum allowed exploring of innovative approaches, including public-private partnerships, in reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 8 on “promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”.

Focus
The Africa Forum included:
• A High-level Dialogue on enabling policies for inclusive green growth and decent green jobs;
Learning sessions on the promotion of private sector inclusive green growth and job creation, including on enabling policies, public-private partnerships and green financing. While taking the construction sector as an example on the basis of the Zambia Green Jobs Programme, the discussion will expand onto other related sectors (waste,
energy, water, agriculture) as well as on conducive green economy policies and strategies and financial innovation;
• A B2B meeting & exhibition place for sharing best practices and showcasing innovative solutions among enterprises and private sector support programmes;
• An open virtual platform to ensure continuous sharing of information and peer-to-peer learning on a regional and sub-regional level, in the spirit of South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

Audience

The Africa Forum was a unique opportunity for policy- and decision-makers, CEOs and managers in the public and private sector, delegated from employers’ and workers’ organisations, entrepreneurs, creative thinkers, innovators and researchers, to share knowledge and inform future policies and strategies on inclusive green growth and the creation of decent green jobs.
